Nighttime burglars are like cockroaches. In fact, most nighttime criminals are just like cockroaches—they cannot stand light! People laugh when I mention the comparison but it’s true. Nighttime criminals work hard to not be seen by victims or anyone else for that matter. They walk in the shadows, love the dark, and in that dark atmosphere; they pounce.
If you are concerned with your security make sure that you have light outside of your home. While most burglaries occur during the day many do occur at night and so do rapes. Bad-guys don’t want a difficult time doing their dastardly deeds. They do not want to be spotted in your driveway or near a window and the like. They worry about being seen lurking near your home by a neighbor or you the potential victim, and that you’ll call the police. So, they very much worry about light and when confronted with it they usually scatter. Just like cockroaches.
There are several ways to light your house up at night. One way is having lights on from dusk to dawn either by turning them on at night and off in the morning or using a dusk to dawn timer or sensor. This is a good way to have light on in your yard but I personally like a better way.
I like motion detector lights. They are inexpensive to purchase and even easier to install. Motion lights go on when a person walks by the light fixture. They go on just like as if you turned the light switch on yourself. And these are just like the regular sized fixtures average Americans have on their porches, backyard decks or by their garages.
What I like is that if someone goes by them the light goes on as if someone turned the lights on because they were spotted. And cockroaches don’t like that. They’ll immediately leave that lit area. And these human cockroaches do not have to be right on top of these fixtures either. No. They can be triggered when someone crosses their path as far as up to 30 feet away!
In addition, they’re harder to figure out how to defeat than those lights that are constantly on in front of a dark house. The key is to put a few of the fixtures out in your yard if possible. With clear glass light fixtures and 100 watt bulbs, one fixture can light up to 40 feet of your yard! And you can set the light to stay on for one-minute, five-minutes or ten-minutes.
Bad guys, or cockroaches, do not like a yard that becomes unexpectedly illuminated all around them. Cockroaches are not like Hollywood types who love the limelight. They can’t stand the limelight, the limelight that motion detector lights give them.
